handspun hank
A while back I scored this luscious bit of handspun silk/wool from the annual auction at the Fellowship--in fact, the guy who spun this actually is a tenor who sits behind me in choir every Thursday. I've been staring at and fondling it ever since I brought it home--I'm kinda thinkin' it would be perfect for some baby booties for a certain someone! What do you guys think? xoxo Brooks

sock workshop
My LYS has asked me to teach a sock workshop, starting today. Of course I am thrilled, because socks are relatively easy and fun, and there are so many wonderful new sock yarns out these days. I mean it you guys: are there any others of you out there who just can't stop buying the stuff? I estimate that at least 1/6 of my entire stash is made up of sock yarn. And if you've ever seen my stash, you know that this is not a trivial number. The latest object of my obsession is the much-raved about Opal, shown above. I admit that the sight of this yarn in the skein has always been somewhat underwhelming to me. The coloring seems washed out, as if the dye didn't quite soak in completely. However, now that I'm actually knitting with it, I take back all those nasty pre-conceived notions, because what appeared to be an oversight in the dye process is clearly seen to be a clever use of negative space, as witnessed in the delightful self-patterning! I'm hooked!

baby news
Well, because I can't resist, and because I think it probably won't do any harm (you guys won't tell, right?) I will share a few more tidbits about our daughter! Katherine is the name she was given at birth and my husband and I have decided to keep it as her first name, since we think it is just lovely. We are hoping to visit in July, and we are so excited! We will go bring her home in the fall (perhaps as early as October) if there are no snags to the process. Thanks to all of you who have supported me through this long and stressful adoption process--your kind comments have really meant a lot to me. Here's a little secret peek at the most beautiful baby in the world! xoxo Brooks
