another sock?
What the heck am I doing? Well, because they're so portable, and because my stash has an alarmingly large number of the self-striping or varigated sock yarn, I've decided I ought to have a sock project going at all times. I bought this yarn (I think) from the LYS two or three years ago to make a pair for meself, and that's what I'm gonna do! I like to wear red and black, so these socks should go with many of my choices in the fall/winter wardrobe.

knitty gritty
I watched this for the first time today--it's a show on DIY. It was delightfully refreshing to see my favorite craft rendered hip and groovy on cable TV. They had Bev Galeskas demonstrating felting (which I love) and needle felting, which I've never done before. Personally, I'm wondering: why bother with the needle felting, especially for decoration? I'd be more inclined to embroider something on before felting in duplicate stitch. Any ideas or opinions, ladies? xoxo

finally... a FO!
Well, I'm a monkey's uncle--in spite of my attempts to put it off until next February (the sock recipient's NEXT birthday) I got 'er done! Too much else going on, well, er, other knitting going on especially. The observant among you have probably already determined that my list of three WIPs in the sidebar isn't always accurate--in fact, it's a downright lie! The truth is, there's usually at least four projects simmering at any given time, three public ones, and one or two (here I hold my finger up to my mouth and say shhhh!) secret ones. It's not that I don't like to share, I really do! It's more that if I have a design project that will be published (either by myself or elsewhere) I like to keep it under my hat until I've decided what I'm gonna do with it. That's why Fiona just appeared all of a sudden, out of nowhere! Speaking of--I know there are some of you who've finished your Fionas--and perhaps haven't yet posted a photo of your bag over on the Fiona Knitalong page, sponsored by Knit Happens. Let's see how they turned out! E-mail me a picture, or post it in the Photos section on the knitalong site. xoxo

meet diamond lil!
The winner of the name the dressform contest is: ---drumroll, please---
...
...
...
The fabulous Mindy of Gidget Casts On (and my ex-secret pal)! Her excellent suggestion went as follows: How about 'Diamond Lil'? Whenever I see dressforms, I ALWAYS think of Mae West (go figure). This was one of her greatest characters (from her play 'Diamond Lil', remade as the movie 'She Done Him Wrong.')

I completely agree, even though I am woefully unfamiliar with Mae West's body of work (pun intended, tee-hee). While I'm researching her aura and legend status, I'll be delighted to compare my own imperfect figure with hers. Here's some of her delicious quotes I found at thinkexist.com, a great resource for witticisms and information on the famous:

"Anything worth doing is worth doing slowly."

"To err is human--but it feels divine."

"So many men, so little time."

"Look your best--who said love is blind?"

"I've been things and seen places."

"It's hard to be funny when you have to be clean."

"A hard man is good to find."

Don't you wish you could've met her in person? Thanks for the great idea Mindy--and I'll get your simple knits book in the mail next week! And speaking of great ideas, the other suggestions I got included "Dritzy Blonde" from Marlana, "Bubbles" from Meg, and several others. Thanks for your names ladies--Happy Independence Day!
